The Warden's stair
In each depth, two floors' stairs fork toward a Warden: the depth's old guard, alone. "The stair forks. Pick a way below." The Warden's door shows what it is before you choose, and at its stair you can still walk on.
The offer
- Its room shows its numbers and what it pays: "Win: an etched Rare+ and 2 gems. Or walk on."
- Press "Fight" and it fights as an elite. Beat it for three times a kill's gold, 2 gems and a piece of etched gear, Rare or better.
- The fight is off the floor's count: after it you go on to the next floor, so choosing the Warden means skipping that floor's merchant.
- Auto never plays a Warden's fight for you.
Where
Two of floors 4, 5, 7 and 8 in every depth, different each run. A guided first run has no forks at all, and the endless hoard has none either.
The other forks
A fork is always the floor's own room against one other. Besides the two Wardens, each depth has one floor that offers a chest beside its merchant, and floors 3, 6 and 9 offer a merchant beside their chest, shrine or forge: useful when you would rather pay the Tally than open the chest.
