Merging
Two of a kind make one of the next rarity. It is the game's middle word: loot, merge, descend.
The rule
Two items merge when they are the same item at the same rarity. The result is one item, a rarity higher. Their levels and etchings need not match.
- Gear, tonics, flasks, kegs and the Gilt Heart all merge. Scrolls do not.
- A Gilded piece can't merge again: Gilded is the top.
- The merged piece keeps the higher level of the two and the better etching of the two.
A merge costs nothing and can be done at any time, in the middle of a fight too. It does not end your turn.
How to merge
- Drag one twin onto the other, in the bag or onto a piece you wear.
- Buy or take a piece you already own a twin of: tapping Buy or Take merges it straight into the twin, and a worn twin upgrades in place.
- To keep both copies instead (two rings, say), drag the new one into an empty slot rather than tapping Buy.
The game marks twins for you: a gold "+" on the corner of a tile means you own its twin, in the bag, in the market, at the merchant and in the stash. While you carry a piece, its twin pulses gold. A merge reads "Merged: Legendary Sunder Brand".
Chains
After a merge, if the result has a twin of its own, they merge too, and so on up. Two Commons and an Uncommon of the same sword become a Rare in one drop. Where a chain joins a worn piece and a bag piece, the result stays worn.
What a merge is worth
| Merge | Flat stats | Percentages |
|---|---|---|
| 2 Common to 1 Uncommon | x2 | x1.5 |
| 2 Uncommon to 1 Rare | x1.9 | x1.4 |
| 2 Rare to 1 Epic | x1.84 | x1.33 |
| 2 Epic to 1 Legendary | x1.79 | x1.29 |
| 2 Legendary to 1 Mythic | x1.76 | x1.25 |
| 2 Mythic to 1 Gilded | x1.73 | x1.22 |
A merged piece has nearly twice the flat stats of either twin, in one socket instead of two. That is the point: you have eight sockets, so the way to grow is to make each one hold more. It takes 64 Commons to make one Gilded.
Twins and loot
Loot leans toward the sets you wear, so twins of your own gear keep coming. On the Greed ladder they come less often: a quarter less from level 3, half as often from level 8.
Split
Split undoes one step: the piece drops a rarity and a second copy of that lower rarity lands in your bag. Long-press says "Split: back into two of the rarity below". It needs a free bag slot and costs nothing. The etching stays on the original. Use it to move a spare copy into another slot's twin, or to sell half.
