The boss notice
Tap the floor number at any time and the game tells you who is waiting at the bottom of the depth, and whether you would beat him.
Opening it
Tap "N/30" in the top bar. It also opens by itself once, when the way on leads straight into the boss, and the button then reads "Face the Tallyman", "Face Mother Brine" or "Face Avarax".
What it shows
- The boss, with his health, armor and power at his floor. Before his fight the numbers carry a "~": they are his floor's numbers without the few percent each enemy varies by.
- On the first seven floors of a depth, one rule to prepare for, such as "Kill her ghouls first: they keep her healing."
- From the depth's floor 8, the whole card: the verdict, "HIS TURNS" as a strip of moves with their numbers, up to three ways to beat him, and "His rules".
The verdict
Under "IF YOU MET HIM NOW" the game plays his whole fight on a copy of your run, with the gear you have on and the luck taken out, and reports one of three words:
- READY: the fight is won by turn 10 with at least 30% of your health and armor left.
- CLOSE: the fight is won, but slower or with less to spare.
- NOT YET: it is not won within 20 turns.
With it comes a line such as "~7 turns, casting Cleave." or "You'd die on turn 9." The test fight aims at his helpers first, casts your hero's skill whenever it can, and GUARDs when GUARD would glow gold. If you owe the Tally, he is tested as he would be with the debt collected: stronger.
The gauge
"YOUR ATTACK n% A TURN" against "WINS AT n%+" compares what one ATTACK of yours takes off his health and armor with the pace of builds that beat him: 6% a turn for the Tallyman, 4% for Mother Brine, 10% for Avarax. Red means you are short of it.
Using it
The verdict changes the moment your gear does. Open it at the last merchant before a boss, try a piece on, and look again: that is the cheapest test in the game. The Bestiary keeps the same card for every boss you have met.
